Summary

The "Blue Angel" is awarded to products and services which, in a holistic view, are particularly environmentally friendly and at the same time meet the highest standards of occupational health and safety as well as ease of use. In order to address the interested parties (consumers, manufacturers and traders), the ongoing development of the existing eco-label award criteria and the development of new eco-labels are necessary.

The eco-labels for textiles and shoes have existed since 2011. Textiles and shoes are mainly imported from countries outside the EU. The negative environmental effects already occur during production. If these effects shall be addressed by the Blue Angel award, corresponding labeling criteria must also include the pollutant inputs and the process conditions of this (pre-) production. In addition to the application of BAT (best available technology) standards, social standards would also be desirable.

At present, Hydrotox is revising the award criteria for textiles and shoes to integrate current developments in the textile and leather sector and to increase acceptance of the award criteria.
